Who aM I

Hello, my name is Omar Bonilla. I'm a 21-year-old Graphic Designer and illustrator. I come from a Hispanic background, and I’ve lived in East Los Angeles my whole life. I’ve had a strong passion for art and storytelling since I was a child and first learned that you can make a career from drawing pictures. I taught myself how to draw and use art materials through online tutorials and trial and error, since the area I grew up in had little to no art programs. It wasn’t until my junior year of high school that I took my first art class, and my technical skills were on par, but my perspective on how storytelling and different approaches to art were barely developing. This opened my eyes to design, creating messages, and providing information through very few to no words. When I started going to CSUDH, I knew 2 things I wanted: to be a professional artist and to learn to design. Also, I wanted to do comics, but that’s something separate. I’ve gotten better with programs such as Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop. I’ve recently started working for the city of Los Angeles, and I’ve continued to learn from every project and piece I make.
